FINNISH VEIKKAUSLIIGA

This league is the top football league in Finland. The league football in Finland started in 1930 and the league was known as SM-Sarja but the name was changed to Veikkausliiga in 1990 and the first Veikkausliiga season was played in the same year. The most successful Finnish teams are HJK with 21 league titles and Haka (9 titles) but recently Tampere United have won three titles and are major force these days. My ex-favourite team FC Jazz (R.I.P.) won the title twice (1993 & 1996). Especially the 1993 team is thought to be perhaps the best team of all times in Finland. The last game of the season 1993 was watched by a record crowd of over 11 000. The atmosphere was great that day inside the stadium.

LOWER DIVISIONS

I also give ratings and picks to lower division football, meaning First Division and the three groups of Second Division. Lower divisions may not be as glamorous as the Champions League but there's still passion. I definitely want my new favourite team FC PoPa (shortened from Porin Palloilijat) to win the promotion to First Division this year and go all the way to Veikkausliiga. Come on, ye BlueStorm!

SM-Liiga is said to be one of the best ice-hockey leagues in the world. Maybe but because the game's fast it is very difficult for punters to estimate the results. My favourite ice-hockey team Ässät have won the title twice (1971 & 1978). This is really fire on the ice...
