CITY OF TURKU


Turku is the oldest city in Finland, founded at 13th century.
It has a population of about 175 000 and it locates at Western
Finland Province (Varsinais-Suomi Region). It is also the third
largest urban area. Turku was the former capital of Finland
before the rights were given to Helsinki in 1812. Turku University
is the oldest in Finland. Turku will be the European Capital of
Culture in 2011 together with Tallinn. Turku is also the official
Christmas City of Finland.
