STEAK & WHISKY HOUSE GALLE (Restaurant)
(Gallen-Kallelankatu 6)

This is one of the top whisky places in Finland.
The Whisky Magazine has rated Galle as one of the best
whisky restaurants in the world (62 were listed).
If you feel hungry while after tasting, you can order
some excellent dishes, steaks are about 20-30 euro's,
and they're very tasty... And after a meal you can enjoy
a good cigar (approx. 50 different brands) and of course more whisky...
If you're only interested in tasting Old Buck it is advised
that before a long journey you contact Galle first and ask do
they have it at the moment. This is because of only small amount being
distilled and the huge demand by customers.
Re-evaluated: May 2010.

MY POINTS AND VIEWS:
Whisky collection: 100/100

About 190 whiskies available. Beautifully placed on the
shelves behind the counter. The most expensive dram costs
200€/4 cl (Glenfarclas Scottish Classic Millennium 40 y.o., nro 96/600).
They also have their own single malt available:
Old Buck (the first Finnish single malt).
The staff: 20/20
The staff on duty had the whisky knowledge and was helpful and let
me examine the bottles. Also I didn't have to pay after every dram.
I could taste as much as I liked and then paid the whole lot afterwards.
Special thanks to whisky guru Mika Heikkinen for his helpful assistance
and enjoyable whisky chat. It was also nice to see that water was served
in a proper jug.
The environment: 5/10
Very modern style restaurant. Maybe a little bit too
modern for me, traditional decoration would suit me better.
The atmosphere: 10/10
Atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable.
TOTAL POINTS: 135/140

BEER HUNTER'S (Pub)
(Antinkatu 11)

Pub in the city centre. Offers about 150 different whiskies
(about 120 single malts), also their own brand:
Old Buck. A beer pub (their own brand Mufloni
also available) but you can also have cocktails and
cigars. They arrange poker-nights every now and then.
Real Ale also available.
If you're only interested in tasting Old Buck it is advised
that before a long journey you contact Beer Hunter's first and ask do
they have it at the moment. This is because of only small amount being
distilled and the huge demand by customers.
Re-evaluated: July 2010.

MY POINTS AND VIEWS:
Whisky collection: 80/100

Varies much but about 120 single malts. All in all,
approximately 150 whiskies.
The staff: 20/20
When it's hectic (Friday's and Saturday's)
the on duty staff (esp. Mika Heikkinen) had the
time to tell you about whiskies. Don't have to pay after
every dram and they also let me examine the bottles.
The environment: 5/10
A pub environment but still quite basic. A sort of combination
of German kneipe and British pub.
The atmosphere: 10/10
A good busy pub atmosphere.

CAFE ANTON (Pub)
(Antinkatu 11)

Nearby Galle and Beer Hunter's. A good pub
where you also can enjoy a good old British
style pub lunch.
Re-evaluated: May 2010.

MY POINTS AND VIEWS:
Whisky collection: 40/100

Total of about 50 different whiskies (approx. 35 single malts +
there was also a good collection of blended whiskies, like
quite expensive Johnnie Walker Blue Label).
The staff: 10/20
Basic/good service by the on duty bartender. No whiskylist available.
Positive thing was that I didn't have to pay after every dram and they
also let me examine the bottles. The bartender kindly also showed one
whisky book while I was enjoying my dram. Remember to ask for a nosing glass.
The environment: 5/10
Pub environment.
The atmosphere: 5/10
Pub atmosphere. Good relaxed place.
