Crime facts 2009
Here I have
listed some facts about crime in the City of Pori and in Finland. I have taken the idea from USA where they
publish annual "safest city - most dangerous city" lists. I have included
in these stats the 30 biggest municipalities (these include cities, towns, rural municipalities and other municipalities).
2009 was Helsinki's fifth year in-a-row to win this "trophy". The sad thing is that Pori now climbed up the ladder of crime
and entered for the first time the top three group.
Top three in 2009: 1) Helsinki; 2) Järvenpää & 3) Pori.
Top three in 2008: 1) Helsinki; 2) Vaasa & 3) Turku.
Top three in 2007: 1) Helsinki; 2) Vaasa & 3) Turku.
Top three in 2006: 1) Helsinki; 2) Vaasa & 3) Turku.
Top three in 2005: 1) Helsinki; 2) Rovaniemi & 3) Hämeenlinna.
When calculated the average of all six crimes during the past five years (over 50 000 inhabitant towns only), Helsinki
is again the winner:
Top three in 2009: 1) Helsinki; 2) Turku & 3) Vaasa.
Top three in 2008: 1) Helsinki; 2) Turku & 3) Vaasa.

CONCLUSION:
After studying all three years I came to conclusion that Pori is quite safe city when compared to other Finnish cities.
Helsinki is keeping tightly its grip on the first spot as they've been now three times in a row the number one municipality.
The only drawback for Pori was the jump from 14th place to now 4th in total crimes but still it's not really worrying.
Of course, the goal should be to decrease the crimes as low as possible.
When compared to other countries (see the following) Pori (and Finland) can be considered as very
safe. So don't worry about visiting Pori and Finland.
You have only 0.77% chance of bumbing into one of these crimes in Finland :-)

These stats probably contain only "aggravated assaults".
Conclusion
is that Finland is very safe place to visit when compared to USA or England. BUT, these stats have
been compiled from different sources so figures might vary according to how they were gathered
originally. Still, this gives you a some sort of an idea of how these cities differ from each others BUT (another but),
these figures stated here are just statistics of what has happened BEFORE. The future is unknown to everybody so therefore
wherever you are and wherever you visit, you should be careful out there. Use your head!!
If I have time I might include other countries also...
Finnish statistics have been compiled from Statistics Finland's website. You can find them in here
